Hiking
The
Blue Ridge Parkway
NC runs directly
through Little Switzerland, Yancey and
Mitchell County and is home to many
excellent hiking trails and outdoor
attractions. From the Blue Ridge Parkway,
try the .5 mile loop Dugger's Creek Trail at
Milepost 316.5. Beacon Heights Trail,
located at Milepost 305, arguably offers the
best overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The
Tanawha Trail is a 13.5 mile trail that
starts at Beacon Heights Parking Area off of
the Parkway and ends at Price Lake. Camp
Creek Trail, found at Milepost 315.2 is an
easy walking trail that is perfect for small
children and older adults, and further down
the parkway at Milepost 320.8 is another
easy trail, the Chestoa View Trail, a 30
minute hike for .63 miles to a view of
Humpback Mountain. More difficult trails can
be found at Linville Falls and Linville
Gorge. The rugged Linville Gorge Wilderness
Area offers a plethora of trails and
opportunities for rock climbing and camping.
Linville Gorge is eastern America’s deepest
gorge and its hiking trails are some of the
most intense in the region. Crabtree Falls Loop Trail is another challenging trail and leads to the spectacular Crabtree Falls, so be sure to
bring your camera when hiking on these Blue
Ridge Parkway NC Hiking Trails. To see
panoramic views of the Black Mountains,
Little Switzerland and the valley near
Armstrong Creek, hike the Woods Mountain
Trail found at Milepost 344.1. This two mile
trail is a great moderate trail. Your

NC are endless! The Parkway also traverses
beside Grandfather Mountain at Milepost 305
where 11 hiking trails await hikers of all
abilities and styles. Grandfather Mountain
Hiking Trails range from easy walks in the

crest of Grandfather Mountain. With five
easy trails, one moderately strenuous, four
strenuous, and one very strenuous trail,
Grandfather Mountain will challenge and
delight you entire group! Mount Mitchell
Hiking is also very popular and, like
Grandfather Mountain, offers a wide variety
of hiking trails within the
Mt. Mitchell
State Park.
Horseback Riding
A great way to experience the NC Blue
Ridge Mountains is to go Horseback Riding in

Biking
There is an abundance of Cycling and
Mountain Biking NC opportunities in the High
Country. For an extreme ride the likes of
which challenge Lance Armstrong, try out the
Blue Ridge Parkway. Known as the mecca of
bicycle touring due to the smooth pavement,
views and challenging routes, the Blue Ridge
Parkway NC is a great place for the experienced
cyclist. Start out at Little Switzerland NC
at Milepost 334 and travel 41 miles to
Blowing Rock and the Moses Cone Manor House
at Milepost 294. This route is not only one
of the most scenic, it affords uphill and
downhill sections for a versatile ride. If
you are looking for rugged mountain biking,
try out the 200 miles of trails in the
Pisgah National Forest. The Wilson Creek
Recreation Area and Mortimer Recreation Area
are known for having some of the best NC
Mountain Biking trails. For a traditional
biking experience, the Mountains to Sea NC
Bike Rout 2 traverses through Burnsville NC
and Boone NC. Catch a few miles on this
900-plus trail right in the heart of
Yancey
County NC. Also in Burnsville NC is the
Yancey County River Cruise, a 37.4 mile
trail that takes you along the banks of

Fishing
Spruce Pine NC Real Estate is blessed by
